NEW TO CRYPTICS?
How to solve
cryptic clues.
Most cryptic clues give you a definition at one end and a wordplay recipe in the rest. The number in brackets tells you how many letters to look for. Read the clue naturally, then try a second reading.
Our nudges reveal the definition first, then the type of wordplay, then a construction tip. When you solve or reveal a clue, you get the full explanation. A revealed answer is marked separately from one you solve.
For example, a charade joins short answers: SUN (a star) + DAY (twenty-four hours) makes SUNDAY. Container clues may use standard abbreviations such as L for large or E for English; the explanations spell them out.
Want more than
one clue a day?
If you searched for Minute Cryptic Unlimited to get more practice, you can start here without waiting for a daily reset. Choose anagrams, hidden words, reversals, charades or containers. Each clue has three progressive hints and a full letter-by-letter explanation.
This is a fixed collection of 20 original clues, not an endless stream of new puzzles or the official Minute Cryptic archive. Read our cryptic clue solving guide with five worked examples, then return to the puzzle above to try each technique.
Minute Cryptic Unlimited practice: questions
Is this Minute Cryptic Unlimited?
This is independent cryptic practice for players looking for Minute Cryptic Unlimited, not the official Minute Cryptic game. This edition uses its own 20 clue phrasings and explanations and does not copy an official archive or membership puzzle feed.
Can I play as much as I like?
Yes. There is no daily limit. The current bank has 20 clues, so answers will repeat after you complete a filtered set. The site does not generate endless new clues.
Are all answers single words?
Yes. This first collection uses single-word answers of three to eight letters. Capitalization and spaces do not affect answer checking.
Does a hint stop a clue counting as solved?
No. Hints support practice. If you submit the correct answer before revealing it in that round, it counts as solved. Revealed answers are tracked separately. These are local learning records, not competitive scores.
What happens when I refresh or change devices?
Completed-clue outcomes stay in this browser when local storage is available. The current unsolved round and hints do not resume. There is no account or cross-device sync.
